Limited edition hand signed lithograph print of Sailfish Gyotaku.

This Sailfish was caught in the Fall of 2016 off the coast of Miami. I went out with a buddy early one morning to harvest a Sailfish for a print. Every year I take one fish per season and get my prints off of him to detail for the year. We got on the water at 4 am and headed out to bait fish.

We caught Goggle Eyes while it was still dark and as soon as first light hit we ran to the edge to put the kite up. We were fishing on my 16 foot Boston Whaler. We flew one kite with 3 baits suspended off of it and a flatline. Seas were about 2 feet and we had a steady 10-15 knot wind out of the East. About a half hour into fishing we hooked a double header. It ended up being a Blackfin Tuna (est. 25-30 lbs) and a 15 pound kingfish. About an hour after that we caught a gaffer Mahi and in the last ten minutes of fishing caught  this sail on the long bait all before my buddy had to be at work by 9am. The fish put on a spectacular show and was just over the legal limit to make the harvest.

I spent the rest of the day cleaning the boat and printing the fish.

GYOTAKU Gyotaku is an ancient Japanese Art form which involves taking impressions of fish for art. What you see on the paper is actual size of the fish caught. Details are added in after the prints are made and include pen and ink along with watercolor accents. While you can get unlimited prints off of a fish Alex will usually take about 5. Every piece is unique and makes for a great centerpiece in a home.

LITHOGRAPH A lithograph is an authorized copy of an original work created by the artist himself or other skilled craftsmen. The printing is from a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a smooth surface.
