October is here and with that the mullet begin their annual migration south, aka “The Mullet Run.” I look forward to this time of year more than any other time. Thousands of mullet make move down the southeast Florida coast. Tarpon, Snook, Sharks, and big Jacks follow their every move and pin them against the beach as they take turns gorging on the school.
For anglers it means waking up early and heading to the beach at first light with a castnet and rod in hand. It is fishing at is simplest form. It can be some of the most exciting fishing South Florida sees. Landing Tarpon exceeding 100lbs straight from the beach is not uncommon.
There is nothing like walking up the beach and seeing one of these Tarpon breach fully out of the water chasing mullet. This piece is a nod to that moment.
