I grew up in the North East fishing the Canyons off the coast of New Jersey. Every year now I go up for one canyon trip in August. It is some of my favorite kind of fishing.
Leave the dock in the afternoon and start your way 80 miles offshore to the edge of the canyons. We fish through the night and into the next time changing tactics from trolling to chunking and back to trolling during first light.
When the bite is slow you can check the lobster pot bouys for Mahi. They congregate around them feeding on the bait that is attracted to the structure. This year while tuna fishing we saw a bust by a pot. We ran over and threw live runners on it and next thing you know we had a 30lb Bull Dolphin come charging out of the water.
This piece is a nod to that fish. He gave away his position and we were able to capitalize.
